Position Description:
General Dynamics is seeking a highly accomplished electrical engineer responsible for the following activities at our Westminster Maryland location. The successful candidate must have an outstanding track record of working in a team environment and completing tasks & projects on-time, on-budget with high quality.

Job Description:

  • Design, develop, integrate and validate electrical prototypes (embedded circuit boards, electrical subsystems and harnesses)

  • Analyze and troubleshoot the efficiency and stability of electrical designs

  • Support the electrical design engineering effort for electrical / tactical (communications, computers and displays) systems to meet customer requirements and specifications as a Subject Matter Expert

  • Define, develop and decompose requirement sets for power electronic components, systems and subsystems

  • Document designs with detailed requirements, specifications, system functional descriptions, schematic diagrams and architectures

  • Conduct and support circuit board design and integration reviews, testing and troubleshooting of embedded electrical designs

  • Interface with software, hardware, electrical, and systems design team members

  • Maintain subject matter expertise in relevant electrical subsystems, EMC/EMI/E3/ESD/RF Communications and Grounding and Bonding

  • Lead and support the resolution of complex technical issues with Production, Suppliers and Customers

  • Support Electrical Engineering Technical Specialist on assignments and tasks as required

  • Develop design solutions for the control, distribution and management of high voltage systems (Preferred but not required)

Position Requirements:


  • BS in Electrical Engineering with excellent critical thinking skills and relentless attention to detail

  • 5+ years experience in electrical design

  • Experience in control systems & real-time control, Diagnostic Systems, Network Communication, CAN/CAN, Serial Protocols, programming, testing and debugging in an embedded environment

  • Experience in working the full life cycle of a project from bidding and requirements definition, through designing, building, qualifying and supporting the fielded hardware

  • Model and Simulation (e.g., Spice, MatLab, etc.)

  • Experience with PCB Design layout (ALTIUM, Mentor Graphics, ORCAD, Eagle etc.)

Experience in any of the follow is highly desirable:

  • Experience designing, integrating and validating safety systems for high voltage/high power vehicle applications

  • Experience with 108-200 VDC power electronic systems

  • Experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting on embedded targets and robotics

  • Experience programming in C and/or C++

  • Circuit design and build, with focus on power electronics hardware

  • Electrical Machines and Drives Control, Theory and Implementation
